My research paper is on how McDonald's are using Ronald McDonald, toys, and commercials to overlook their unhealthy food and obesity in the children of America. During my research I've found out the reason behind why and how McDonald's came up with Ronald McDonald and why the toy is so heavy advertised more than anything else today on commercials.
-Obesity Children:
*Child obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years.
*Children 6-11 years in the US who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010.
*Adolescents aged 12-19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% in 2010.
*Children 2-5 years spend 32 hours a week watching TV.
*Children 6-11 years spend about 28 hours.
-Ronald McDonald and the Happy Meal:
*Ronald was created in 1963 by Willard Scott.
* 30% increase in sales
* Establish a happy and fun time
* Children became more interested in the toy
*Happy Meal was created in 1979 by Dick Brams.
* hamburger or cheeseburger, fries, cookies, soft drinks, and a choose of a toy. (McNuggets: 1983)
* Fictional toys were made from Disney in 1987
