Why Watch Snow White When You Can Watch Snow Leopards?
Snow leopards are one of the most dangerous, yet most beautiful creatures I have seen (which is part of the reason why I choose it). The snow lion is a very large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central Asia. They range from 4 to 5 feet long, their tail up to 36 inches long, and their weight 60 to 120 pounds. Snow leopards have powerful legs and are tremendous leapers, able to jump as far as 50 feet. They use their long tails for balance and as blankets to cover sensitive body parts against the severe mountain chills. These animals are great predators. They can kill animals three times their weight, they also east smaller fare, such as marmots, hares, and game birds; but they mainly prey on sheep.
The life of a cub snow leopard is very simple. A female snow leopard has only 2 to 3 cubs at a time. The cubs eat their solid food when they are about 2 months old, and right after that month they began going along hunting with their mother. They only hunt with her for at least through the first winter and then they venture off on their own.
So why watch snow leopards instead of Snow White? That answer is simple. . .their ENDANGERED species. By 1970 the snow leopard had already become rare due to hunting for fur and as a trophy, persecution as a livestock predator, and a loss of prey. It is estimated that there are 4,500 to 7,500 snow leopards living in the mountains of Central Asia. 60% of the entire population of snow leopards lives in China. We kill these beautiful creatures to satisfy our need and to look good in a piece of clothing. I feel as long as these animals are not hurting or hunting down mankind, we should not be hurting or hunting then down just to look good. We really do have different alternatives to look good and keep warm without having to kill all the beautiful snow leopards.
