From "Pasta al Burro" to Chicken and Shrimp Alfredo
I am what you will call a
"simple eater". I only like pizza, chicken tenders, fries . . . you know just
basic American food. I barley try new things to eat. About a year ago this
amazing dish 'got introduced into my life and I just couldn't resist it. It's
called chicken and shrimp Alfredo. To most people that might just be regular
American food, but it was something completely new and different to me. Its nota
family dish but more like a best friend dish (since they introduced it to me).
If we ever want to cook a large amount of food, this is what we cook, something
easy, simple, and something that everybody will
enjoy.
We
pretty much all know that Alfredo sauce originated from Italy. But the reason
why it was created was very interesting to me. Alfredo di Lelio was trying to
cook something that would be different but good for his pregnant wife. So he
created a sauce made from parmesan cheese and butter and poured it over some
fettuccine. So how did it get to the United States? Well, di Lelio opened a
restaurant in Italy to broadcast this new sauce he created. Making enough money,
he moved his restaurant to New York and introduced America to his saucy pasta
dish.
We have now integrated
American ideas and our culture into this dish. For example, Italians don't use
cream to make their Alfredo because they feel that it would become too heavy
thick. But we Americans do use a little bit of cream in our sauce. In Italy the
dish is called "Pasta al Burro". We basically just got the name from its
creator. We Americanized his dish by adding chicken, shrimp, cream, or what
else we put on our pasta. This dish may be simple but it is really one of mi
favorites.
